In-Depth Information
In 2011 Boom Chicago branched out to become a trinity of Leidseplein entertainment: it's
a comedy club, a late-night bar and a nightclub. The hilarious English-language improv
troupe - Boom's mainstay - has been playing to enthusiastic crowds since 1993. The top-
ical shows riff on local and European issues and are a surprisingly good place to get the
pulse of Amsterdam politics.

Sugar Factory
The vibe at this self-described 'cutting-edge multidisciplinary night theatre' is always
welcoming and creative. It's definitely not your average club - most nights start with mu-
sic, cinema, or a dance or spoken-word performance, followed by late-night DJs and dan-
cing. Sunday's Wicked Jazz Sounds party is a sweet one, bringing DJs, musicians, singers
and actors together to improvise.

Pathé Tuschinskitheater
Extensively refurbished, Amsterdam's most famous cinema is worth visiting for its sump-
tuous art deco/Amsterdam School interior. It features a huge handmade carpet and a strik-
ing cupola that should never meet the gaze of someone on hallucinogens. The
grote zaal
(main auditorium) generally screens blockbusters; the smaller theatres play art-house and
indie films.
