ocially endorses UA as a development strategy. This declaration should be
seen as an inspiration for the development of UA in Zaria and Nigeria as a
whole.
The research presented in this paper showed that UA was found to have
adverse implications in some areas of Zaria - these require planning
intervention. Ideally, the most appropriate method for identifying potential
agricultural areas requires an agricultural land-use map. The map would
classify agricultural areas, ranging from prime agriculture land to the least
productive land. Continuous pieces of land in a town of high agricultural
productivity may not be geographically possible; therefore, urban
practitioners need to be flexible and exploit areas that are potentially
favourable for agricultural development.
