from the overnight guests, who stay in very basic accommodations (FigureĀ  14.35)
and are entertained under the stars by the family and neighbors. And the ecotourism
company receives its revenue from the booking fee and through the hiring of one of
its guides, the latter being a requirement to visiting Taquile and thereby excluding
the onslaught of independent and unregulated foreigners who might have otherwise
descended upon the island, thereby threatening the integrity of its unique culture.
