One difference that these overwater dwellers have from their marshland brethren,
however, is their need for mobility in relation to the hydrological idiosyncrasy of
the Tonle Sap. Most of the communities are situated near the mouths of inflowing
streams, but during the dry season many of the fishermen and their families leave
their stilted homes behind and use their houseboats (FigureĀ 14.10) to move out and
moor on the lake in order to be closer to their fishing areas, often deep within the
flooded forests.
