of waterfowl can be mapped on that particular landscape, indicating variable densi-
ties. Another layer of information Ducks Unlimited uses is to predict the densities
of birds over vast, unsurveyed regions based upon the geographic characteristics of
the sampled area, including wetlands and grasslands. These distributions of data are
then overlain to indicate the highest priority areas and thus to provide information
to enable a management prescription within which Ducks Unlimited will undertake
its varied conservation work. The approach enables a decision matrix to be created
