One major objective was to facilitate and encourage education and interpretation
within the reserve (Irani 2004). For example, the RSCN worked with local children
to begin to make them feel responsible for their area such that schools now use the
visitor center (FigureĀ  7.9) to discuss and plan options for developing sustainable
practices (FigureĀ  7.10). One marker of the success of the education program was
that before the RSCN started, 70 percent of the locals thought that environmental
protection and management were solely government responsibilities. Now, through
implementing different interactive techniques such as role-playing and debates with
the visiting national minister of water, and using music and theater to tell water
