Conference in 1992 as a capacity-building program to support activities relating to
protected areas management. The goals of the project (Irani 2004) were as follows:

• Rehabilitate and manage the area as the Azraq Wetland Reserve.

• Establish an environmental impact assessment unit within the Department

of Environment directed toward an improved implementation of the Ramsar
Convention guidelines in Jordan.
