SUSTAINING RESTORATION
Wetland restoration is not over when the newly excavated hole fills with water and
plants; it needs certain monitoring and possible tending through time (France 2003).
In the case of the Lake Hula wetland complex, some problems occurred as a result of
what might be referred to as there being “too much of a good thing.” Following the
creation of Lake Agmon, thousands of birds returned to the Hula region for the first
time in decades (Shy et al. 1998). Grain foraging made it difficult for nearby farmers
trying to maintain their living. The large increase in the number of cranes (up to twenty
thousand per day during the migration season) caused problems in terms of grazing
