Much can be learned from the detailed scientific approach taken to the Hula
Valley Restoration Project, and much of the methodology utilized in this Israeli case
study is adaptable and applicable to the situation occurring less than a thousand kilo-
meters away in southern Iraq. The times of prejudicially ignoring scientific insight
(as, for example, with regard to Galileo and Giordano Bruno) are well behind us, and
scientific knowledge presented in peer-reviewed international publications remains
the best source of objective information accessible to all, and something which pres-
ent and future Iraqi wetland scientists would be remiss not to turn to with respect to
this important case study, regardless of their own personal political opinions.
