world, it is interesting to note that they treated the Hula restoration project in the
form of a large experiment. In order to investigate all the nuances of this pioneer
project, researchers employed grazing exclusion cages, variable revegetation strat-
egies, different riparian tree plantings, and the like, and wrote dozens of scientific
papers, including a special issue of the international journal Wetlands Ecology
and Management called “Destruction and Creation of Wetland Ecosystem in
Northern Israel.” In this same light, researchers established a vigorous long-term
monitoring program to determine the successes and failures of the various restora-
tion and conservation measures employed.
