In-Depth Information
The artistic center of Nepal, Lalitpur, is located in the Kathmandu
Valley and boasts the country's largest community of metal- and
woodworkers. Filled with temples, monasteries, pagodas, and sacred
buildings, Lalitpur is only about three miles (five kilometers) away
from the capital and has become a popular tourist destination.
The Patan Durbar Square area includes most of the his-
torical stupas and monuments. The square is also one of the
seven World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu Valley. Many
beautiful stone-built Hindu temples, such as the temple of
Krishna, reveal the marvelous craftsmanship of the valley's
seventeenth-century builders. To many tourists visiting the city,
all of Lalitpur appears to be an open museum of arts and crafts.
