The caste system creates a hierarchical society, where people are born
into certain classes that determine their line of work and status in life.
In 2001, the Nepalese government outlawed discrimination against
the people of lower castes, allowing those people to use village water
pumps (above) , pray in Hindu temples, and for their children to
receive an equal education.
