quickly declared Nepal to be a secular nation, over which the
king had little power. He no longer served as the head of state,
or as commander of the Nepalese army. In November 2006,
Nepal's government and the Maoist rebels signed a landmark
peace accord that ended the 10ﾭyear insurgency.
