Remember that almost all hostels run tours of Beijing specifically designed for Western travellers. They're often
the easiest way to see the Great Wall in particular.
Bike Beijing ( 康多自行车租赁 ; 6526 5857; www.bikebeijing.com ; 34 Donghuangchenggen Nanjie
东皇城根南街 34 ; 9am-7pm; China Museum of Art) Runs recommended and safe half-
and one-day tours of Beijing by bike, including tours of imperial Beijing, the hutong and
out to the Great Wall ( Click here ) . All guides speak English and they provide you with
helmets as well. You can also rent bikes here.
Dandelion Hiking ( 156 522 00950; www.chinahiking.cn ) Reputable and friendly outfit that
specialises in hikes along the Great Wall ( Click here ) , as well to the Ming Tombs ( Click
here ) and other areas around Beijing. They do one-day hikes (or you can camp
overnight), the groups are never more than 10 people and the guides are knowledgeable.
Beijing Sideways ( 139 110 34847; www.beijingsideways.com ) Fancy seeing Beijing from the
sidecar of an old-school Chinese motorbike? Then this unique, French-run tour company
is for you. The trips out to the Great Wall ( Click here ) are especially fun, but they do
two- and four-hour tours of Beijing too. You can also plan your own itinerary and they'll
take up to 20 people in a convoy.
China Culture Center ( 6432 9341; www.chinaculturecenter.org ) Long-standing organisation
that runs tours of the hutong by pedicab, as well as themed cultural tours to places like
Maliandao Tea Market ( Click here ) and art and architecture visits. They can take you
round all Beijing's main sights too. The walking tours to less-visited parts of the capital
come recommended.
