Shopping is one of Beijing's pleasures - whether you're looking for a unique
souvenir, haggling over jewellery or just soaking up the atmosphere in the city's
ever-increasing malls. Prices aren't as cheap as they used to be, but good deals
are still possible for art, scrolls, silk, jewellery, jade and clothing.
Where to Start
For offbeat, fun souvenirs, try Nanluogu Xiang, while you'll find the trendiest and most up-
market malls in North and South Chaoyang. Head to Liulichang Xijie and Liulichang
Dongjie for inks, paintings and scrolls, or to get a chop, a personalised ink stamp or seal,
made. The nearby Dashilar area is home to some of Beijing's oldest stores.
