The Walk
Tucked away to the southeast of Tiananmen Square is the fascinating former Foreign Lega-
tion Quarter. The peaceful, tree-lined streets here are lined with European-style buildings
from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which were once the homes and offices of the
small Western community in old Peking. The quarter is a real oasis in this part of town and
great for a wander.
