The Great Wall
The most iconic monument in all China, the Great Wall (
长城
;
Changcheng
) stands as an awe-inspiring symbol of
the grandeur of China's past. There's no way you can leave
Beijing without having set foot on its ancient ramparts.
Badaling (
八达岭
) is the closest stretch of the wall to the
capital and, despite the inevitable crowds, it is highly pho-
togenic, with fine watchtowers and, best of all, the classic
vista of the wall snaking off across the hills into the far distance.
