6 Old Summer Palace
PARK/RUINS
OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP
Not to be confused with the Summer Palace ( Click here ) , this once glorious complex of
European-style buildings was sacked by Anglo-French forces in 1860 during the Second
Opium War, a humiliation the Chinese have still not forgotten. Now, you can wander
through the melancholy ruins and then stroll on through the massive park that surrounds
them. ( 圆明园 ; 28 Qinghua Xilu; park only/all sights ¥10/25, map ¥6;
7am-7pm;
Yuanmingyuan Park)

Ethnic Eats in Weigongcun
China has a special university ( 民族大学 ; Minzu Daxue ) for its many ethnic minorities, and on nearby Weigong
Jie you'll find some of the most authentic restaurants serving up their local cuisines. There's everything from
Mongolian to Tibetan and Uighur food here. But perhaps the best option is the wonderful Golden Peacock ( 金孔
雀德宏傣味餐厅 ; 6893 2030; Weigongcun 魏公村韦伯豪家园南门 ; dishes from ¥18;
11am-10pm; Weigongcun; ), which specialises in the Southeast Asian-like cuisine of the Dai people
from the southwestern province of Yunnan. To get here, jump on Line 4 to Weigongcun and then walk south
down Zhungguanancun for 400m to Weigongcun.
