1 Wanshou Temple
BUDDHIST TEMPLE
OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP
This Ming dynasty-era temple has a fascinating history; this was where the emperors used
to stop en route to the Summer Palace for a tea break. It was originally consecrated for the
storage of Buddhist texts, but the temple now houses a fine collection of bronze Buddhist
statues, as well as some magnificent stone and clay sculptures. ( 万寿寺 ; Suzhou Jie; admission

2 Wuta Temple

With its unique five-pagoda roof, this secluded Ming-era structure looks more like an Indi-
an temple than a Chinese one. The complex also holds a rare collection of stone statues,
some scattered around the grounds, others stored carefully in the buildings to the back. (

3 Military Museum
OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP
This museum was undergoing a massive refit at the time of writing, but its forecourt
bristled with a display of tanks, planes and artillery pieces that was free to see. When the
building itself re-opens, you'll find everything from swords to surface-to-air missiles in-
side. Despite the martial tone, this is one of Beijing's more popular museums. ( 军事博物
