In the corner of a tower block with a striking Swiss cheese-like facade, this funky base-
ment club, with stylish bar at ground level above it, gets lively on weekends, with mostly
house music. The steep, spiral staircase leading down to the club is lethal after a few
drinks. (A101 Guanghua Lu Soho, Guanghua Lu 光华路光华路 Soho 地下 1 ; club admission ¥50;

If you want to enjoy a sweeping view over the city while eating a meal or downing a drink, then head to the gar-
gantuan but not very romantically named China World Trade Centre Phase Three (1 Jianguomenwai Dajie 建国
门外大街 1 号国贸大酒店 ; Guomao) , Beijing's tallest building. If the credit card isn't maxed out yet, eat at
Grill 79 ( 国贸 79; 79th fl China World Trade Centre Phase Three; mains ¥180-300; noon-2pm & 6-10pm;
Guomao; ), where the steaks are superb. Afterwards, head up one more floor to Atmosphere ( 云酷酒
; 80th fl China World Summit Wing; cocktails from ¥80; noon-2am; Guomao) for cocktails, Cuban ci-
gars and live jazz. The World Trade centre is just to the northwest of Guomao metro station.

You'll find paintings that dangle from the ceiling, giant mirrors against the walls and fin-
de-siècle-style furniture here, as well as the most extravagant toilets in the city. They all
make this Philippe Starck-designed bar Beijing's most eye-catching nightlife destination. (
