Temple of Heaven Park
This collection of halls and altars set within a delightful
park (
天坛公园
;
Tiantan Gongyuan
) is a perfect example
of Ming architectural design. Each year, the emperors - the
sons of heaven - came here to seek divine clearance and
good harvests and to atone for the sins of their people in an
esoteric ceremony of prayers and ritual sacrifices.
Everything about the complex is unique, with shape, colour
and sound combining to take on symbolic significance,
while the park is a true oasis from Beijing's bedlam.
