5.1 Introduction
This chapter is an introduction to moving data between SAS Enterprise Guide and Microsoft Excel. SAS
Enterprise Guide has a lot of features that process and analyze data. Here we are interested in a few
processes that present data to and read data from Excel, and that are available when using SAS Enterprise
Guide. Some of these methods are found on the File tab of the Enterprise Guide toolbar and are handled by
software “wizard” tools. Many of the examples in this chapter offer step-by-step instructions with pictorial
explanations of the steps needed to perform the tasks. This chapter assumes a working knowledge of SAS
Enterprise Guide 4.3, 5.1, or 6.1 and shows examples of the following methods of moving data between
SAS and Excel.
Send data to
-
(Output to Excel)
Export data to
-

Export a graph

SAS Enterprise Guide 5.1 was the first release to be available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. As with all
of the SAS and Excel products, the bit compatibility will need to be watched to make sure the products
work together. SAS Enterprise Guide establishes a Microsoft client/server method of writing data to Excel
files even when executing on one computer. The Microsoft product DDE is not available to SAS Enterprise
Guide. Some of the examples in this chapter rely on the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office, which is part of
the SAS Enterprise BI Server and SAS Enterprise Miner.
