9.7 Conclusion
The examples in this chapter showed how to use the dialog boxes to make a connection and how to capture
the information about that connection to create a LIBNAME statement. The LIBNAME connections open
up all of the other uses and routines to use the data and procedures available to SAS users. The
“preserve_tab_names=yes” on the LIBNAME statement allowed the SHOES$ table in the Excel file to be
visible to PROC CONTENTS, and showed an example of how to submit LIBNAME options for
processing. As mentioned before, full Excel pages are displayed with a “$” suffix, while Excel named
ranges do not have a suffix.
