conveniently located kiosk for travellers is at the bus station at Eminönü. Cards can be recharged at machines or kiosks
at ferry docks, metro stations and bus stations.
Ferry
Best for… Sightseeing and travelling on the Bosphorus and Golden Horn (Haliç).
The main ferry docks are at the mouth of the Golden Horn (Eminönü and Karaköy) and
at Beşiktaş, a few kilometres northeast of Galata Bridge, near Dolmabahçe Palace. There
are also busy docks at Kadıköy and Üsküdar on the Asian (Anatolian) side. The following
routes are commonly used by travellers:
Eminönü-Anadolu Kavağı Take the Boğaz Gezileri (Bosphorus Cruise); between one
and three services per day.
Eminönü-Kadıköy Approximately every 15 to 20 minutes from 7.30am to 9.10pm.
Eminönü-Üsküdar Approximately every 20 minutes from 6.35am to 11pm.
Karaköy-Kadıköy Approximately every 20 minutes from 6.10am to 11pm.
Üsküdar-Eminönü-Kasımpaşa-Hasköy-Ayvansaray-Sütlüce-Eyüp The Golden
Horn (Haliç) ferry; approximately every hour from 10.45am to 8pm, earlier on weekdays.
Jetons cost 2 for most trips and it's possible to use İstanbulkarts on all routes. İstanbul
Şehir Hatları (istanbul City Routes; www.sehirhatlari.com.tr ) has fare and timetable information.
Private Bosphorus excursion boats ( 10) depart Eminönü regularly, travelling as far as
Anadolu Hisarı and back without stopping.
Taxi
Best for… Travelling at night or if you are short on time.
Taxi rates are very reasonable (the trip from Sultanahmet to Taksim Sq will cost around
15) and there are no evening surcharges.
