Indulge in some peerless people-watching while enjoying the grilled meats at this popular
place in the Kadın Pazarı. The square is always full of locals shopping or enjoying a gos-
sip, and tourists were a rare sight before Anthony Bourdain filmed a segment of

Fes Cafe

CAFE
After a morning spent trading repartee with the touts in the Grand Bazaar, you'll be in
need of a respite. Fortunately, this stylish cafe just outside the Nuruosmaniye Gate is an
excellent place to relax over lunch or a coffee. Popular choices include Turkish coffee
(served with a piece of
lokum
), homemade lemonade and generously proportioned bowls
of pasta. There's also a branch inside the bazaar, set in a rough-stone den on Halıcılar
Çarşışı Sokak.

Bahar Restaurant

TURKISH
Our favourite eatery in the Grand Bazaar precinct, tiny Bahar ('Spring') is popular with
local shopkeepers and is always full, so arrive early to score a table. Dishes change daily
and with the season - try the delicious lentil soup, tasty
hünkar beğendi
(lamb stew served
on a bed of roasted and puréed aubergine) or creamy macaroni. No alcohol.

An excellent neighbourhood eatery, this place close to the Grand Bazaar grills succulent
kebaps to order and displays an array of daily dishes in its bain-marie. Of these, the auber-
gine dishes are particularly tasty. No alcohol.
