VFT by rolled sections
Recently rolled sections of high strength steel (S460) become competitive solutions compar-
ing to ordinary steel welded girders out of normal steel (S355) and it influences the VFT tech-
nology also. Road bridges WD7 and WD8 on Route Sucharskiego (Gdańsk) were realized
using prefabricated composite beams with high-strength hot rolled sections after the year
2010. Viaduct WD8 is an about 390 m long continuous beam with 40 m spans (“Fig. 27”),
viaduct WD7 is shorter.

In both cases the initially designed solution by VTF with plated girders with variable
constructions height (“Fig. 28”) was re-designed to rolled sections HL1100 with constant
construction height (“Fig. 29”). This was the general contractor's wish at the contract stage,
consequently the design office worked out such an alternative solution.
