The Fishing Hook M'Pai Village T 081 332718. Susan
and Pacaday offer just four bunk-beds in their cute,
unassuming over-water home, prettily furnished with
driftwood furniture, in the heart of the village. They
support the local community and have a tiny café-bar
(daily 8.30am-10pm) that spills onto the neighbour's
deck. Drop in for delicious frie d c rab with black pepper ($5),
pancakes or an ice-cold beer. $5

lovely pebbled cold-water bathrooms (some open-air) and
sunset views beside an idyllic white-sand beach. The
charming owners cook delicious Swiss-French food and
batteries provide power (for lights) overnight. Th e D ive
Shop, just 100m away, provides the transfers ($20). $30
KOH RONG
Most of the island's accommodation is squeezed into a
small 300m stretch close to the main pier, known as Koh Tui
Village. Guesthouses here are much of a muchness; rooms
and dorms are small, and walls paper-thin. With such a
concentration of places, many with their own bars, don't
expect a quiet night's sleep.

Escapism doesn't get much better than at Lonely Beach , set
on the far northern tip of the island. Bungalows enjoy sea
views, there's an open-sided dorm and you can fish, trek or
beach com b to your hear t's content. Boat transfers cost $20.

just 50m from the action on Koh Tui beach, are basic but
comfortable. Also home to a lively restaurant-bar that's

earshot (just) of the village; nine types of spacious,
comfortable fan-cooled bungalow are scattered near the
beach and up the hillside and there's 24hr electricity, hot
showers and wi-fi. The stilted restaurant has fab sea views,
and serves some of th e be st food on the island (chicken
wrapped in bacon $6). $35

show-stopping location on Koh Rong's best brilliant-white
beach accounts for the higher than average rates - the six
timber bungalows (and one room) are perfectly adequate,
plus ther e's s norkelling to enjoy nearby. Free pick-up from

in the village, well located for the pier. Rooms are clean and

here; en-suite bungalows with comfy beds set along
stretches of sand so fine it squeaks and there's an

(private or shared bathrooms) and coconut-roofed tents

power. The big stilted restaurant-bar has a pool table and
serves good portions of tasty food (dail y 7a m-9pm); try
the fried prawn in green pepper ($7.50). $20

Facilities are shared, there's a communal restaurant-bar
(meals $2-12), and activities include guided walks, fishing,

Accommodation is scattered all around the island, with the
largest concentration (around seven resorts, and rising) at
the idyllic 3km-long eastern curve of Saracen Bay, where
most of the (day) tour boats disembark.
