Treasure Island Seafood South of Hawaii Beach,
Independence headland T 012 830505. Head down the
steps behind the decrepit Koh Pos Hotel to reach this
beachside Chinese restaurant, specializing in fish and seafood
- the grilled squid is delicious ($5), and there's a lovely little
beach to laze on afterwards. Best to go at lunchtime as the
road to reach it is pitch black at night. Daily 9am-9pm.
Bosco hotel school (see p.254); seasonal flavours, such as
mango or jackfruit, are exceptional. Daily 7am-9.30pm.

served in a traditional wooden house set back from the
main road; laidback atmosphere, eclectic music and

Dining in this intimate Japanese restaurant feels like you're
a guest in someone's home. The food is authentic, and the
nightly sashimi (a steal at $3) sells out early. Other hits
include the lightly seared beef ($2.75) or the fried pork
with ginger sauce ($4.74). It's hugely popular, so book
ahead. Tues-Sun 5-9pm.

Sihanoukville has some of the best nightlife in the country. With so many bars, with new favourites popping up and
others closing almost weekly, it's worth asking at your guesthouse or looking in the Sihanoukville Visitors Guide for the
latest hangouts; utopia and Monkey Republic are usually packed each night.

A popular open-all-hours beach bar with nightly DJs,
fireshows and the odd mud-wrestling competition. Get the
party started with a $4 vodka bucket. Also runs booze

THE BEACHES
SERENDIPITY BEACH ROAD

.com. A good place if you want to watch Western sports,
mix with the local expats and have a few beers without
being deafened or propositioned. Happy hour 5-10pm.

Led Zephyr Cnr Serendipity Beach Rd & 14 Mithona St

nightly (6-9pm) and a large guitar-shaped bar. Their
fishbowls $3.50 (great for sharing) get you in the party
mood. Daily 7am-2am.
WEATHER STATION HILL/VICTORY HILL
The Beer House Snake House, southwest of
Independence Monument T 012 673805. Sports bar
with 2m screen, pool tables and plenty of female (and
reptilian) company. Daily 8pm until late.
Mojo's Victory Hill T 016 397704. This long-running,
French-owned, heavily muralled music-bar along Victory
Hill's “drinking street” has parties every Mon night. Daily
11am-dawn.
Maybe Later T 097 869 5264. A brilliant place for
cocktails (try the creamy Bad Panda); or soak up the
tequilas and rums by grazing on the excellent menu of
quesadillas, tacos ($3.50) and burritos ($5) right up until
they close. Daily 5pm-2am.
Monkey Republic T 012 490290. A popular spot in the
thick of the action, with a pool table and plenty of deals on
shooters, spirits and beers (happy hour 6-9pm). It's also
one of the few places you can get sloshed on Jagermeister.
Very acceptable food, too. Daily 8am-midnight.
utopia Cnr Serendipity Beach Rd & 14 Mithona St T 034
934319. Possibly the busiest Western bar in town, with
draught beer for 50c (9-10pm), $2.50 cocktails, fire dancers
around the pool, a 25-person hot tub and parties every night
from 10pm. Also serves cheap food. Daily 10am-late.
DOWNTOWN
The Emerald Cnr Sopheakmongkol & Omuli streets
T 012 249525. There's plenty of atmosphere in this
Scottish-owned Irish pub, filled to the brim with priceless
memorabilia from the Emerald Isle. They brew their own
cider, serve ice-cold Guinness and have a huge selection of
whiskey (from $2). There's also a pool table, good, cheap
food (Irish strew $4.50) and a couple of basic rooms (from
$8). Daily noon-2am.
G'day Mate 163 Ekareach St. Expat bar and restaurant,
with the usual Western and Asian dishes, plus a pool table
and big-screen TV showing live sports including rugby,
motor sports and Aussie rules football. Daily 24hr.
