Bounding the northern side of Banlung, the tranquil lake of Boeung Kansaing offers
a complete change of pace and scenery from the slightly manic town centre. The
lake is far from unspoilt, with increasing numbers of nondescript modern hotels
mushrooming around its banks, but it remains a pleasant place for a wander at any
time of day, particularly towards dusk, when a small cluster of food stalls set up
around the lake's southern edge - a fun place to hang with the locals over a beer and
watch the sun go down.

About 1km west of the airport crossroads off the Stung Treng road, from where a track runs behind Wat Eisay Patamak up to the hilltop
There are good views, especially at sunrise and sunset, from the modest hilltop at
Phnom Svay , with panoramic vistas over the rolling countryside below and distant hills
beyond. he path up heads through the pretty Wat Eisay Patamak , before reaching the
top of the hill some 500m beyond, where an impressive reclining Buddha replaces one
destroyed by the Khmer Rouge.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE BANLUNG
There's no quick way to get to Banlung - since flights stopped in 2006 the only approach is a long slog by road along
National Routes 7 and 78. The road north of Kratie to the junction at O Pong Moan (20km south of Stung Treng) is currently
in a bad way, with serious potholes and large stretches of tarmac washed away, making for a slow and rattling ride. Things
