structures to ensure a smooth transition.

Since the launch of the EGEE program in 2004, the project has made strides
forward in both delivering a world-class production grid infrastructure
and strengthening the grid i eld in general. Through provision of a reli-
able, scalable production infrastructure, high-quality middleware, and
well-developed support services, EGEE has attracted a wide range of
users from the research and business communities, which are now using
the infrastructure on a daily basis and are critically dependent on the exis-
tence of a production grid infrastructure. The EGEE infrastructure will
continue to expand and optimize the services it provides to its users while
contributing to efforts turning the currently short-term i nanced infra-
structure operation into a sustainable model, based on national grid infra-
structures coordinated by a European body.
