Our grid portal provides a single point of access to the NYS Grid for
those users who want to concentrate on their disciplinary efforts and pre-
fer to avoid low-level commands. Applications are typically ported to the
grid portal through our grid-enabling application template, which pro-
vides developers with a template for porting a fairly traditional science or
engineering application to our grid-based Web portal. This approach
provides the developer with access to various databases, APIs, PHP
scripts, HTML i les, shell scripts, and so on in order to provide a common
platform to port applications and for users to efi ciently utilize such appli-
cations. The generic template for developing an application provides a
well-dei ned standard-scientii c application workl ow for a grid applica-
tion. This workl ow includes a variety of functions that include data grid
interactions, intermediate processing, job specii cation, job submission,
