10.3.1.1
Defi nitions of the Roles
We dei ne the roles of different entities that interact with SLA Manager as
follows:
Service client/customer: the service client may be an application
or another service implementation with sufi cient authority for
service subscription and usage. It can be a software module that
requests a service from a service provider. The service client
assumes two roles. The i rst role is that of a service requestor when
it queries the service provider regarding service offerings and
negotiates an SLA. The role of the service client changes to a
service user when the service is being delivered.
Service provider: the service provider is a network-addressable
software entity that executes requests and provides services to
their clients. The service provider may publish the descriptions of
the services and provide the SLA templates for its potential service
clients to access.
SLA Manager: this is a software module/component located
inside a service entity to facilitate the interaction between a service
provider and its service clients for establishing SLAs and
completing SLA-relevant operations.
Service manager: this is a software module/component within a
service entity that manages the service. The service manager is
