In Equation 4.28, the end user can also specify the weight W i for their pref-
erence on QoS. In DRIC, the entropy weight is the default choice, because
entropy weight considers both the QoS requirement of the end user and
the execution cost of the tasks. With the model presented above, the
application can always choose a suitable method to handle faults.

This chapter has sought to give a brief introduction about the ChinaGrid
and to related dependable computing research. While the research
involved is plentiful, the chapter cannot cover everything; for example, an
in-course online project, the IBM MQ, has been used to improve the reli-
ability of the application platform. This chapter covered the vision and
mission for the ChinaGrid project and i ve different applications and its
application-supporting platform. To illustrate the practical issues of the
ChinaGrid, the chapter covered the related dependability research in the
ChinaGrid project. The dependability research covers grid monitoring,
grid platform fault tolerance, efi cient failure detectors, and failure han-
dling of grid applications. The chapter gave an overview about the design
and implementation about this research.
