INFORMATION AND TOURS
Tourist o ces The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) is at the
intersection of Orchard and Cairnhill roads (daily 9.30am-
10.30pm; hotline T 1800 736 2000, W yoursingapore.com);
staff have a host of brochures and can give advice on
attraction combination tickets. There's also a visitor centre
in Chinatown at 2 Banda St (Mon-Fri 9am-9pm, Sat & Sun
9am-10pm; T 6221 5115, W chinatown.sg).

W singaporewalks.com. Fantastic walking tours of the city's
unique neighbourhoods (S$35; 2-3hr). There's a different
tour each day bar Sunday; choose from the likes of “Secrets
of the Red Lantern”, “End of Empire” and “Sultans of Spice”.

BY BUS
Singapore has two bus terminals, serving numerous
destinations in Malaysia. There is no need to change
buses as they will ferry you across the causeway, through
passport control and on to your destination. Buses to
Johor Bahru leave from Queen St terminal at the junction
of Queen and Arab streets, while the Golden Mile Complex
at 5001 Beach Rd serves all other destinations such as
Penang, Butterworth and Ipoh.

Malaysia (4 daily; 10-11hr); Johor Bahru, Malaysia (every
30min; 1hr); Kota Bharu, Malaysia (at least 1 daily; 10hr);
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (15 daily; 7hr); Kuantan, Malaysia
(3 daily; 7hr); Melaka, Malaysia (9 daily; 5hr); Mersing,
Malaysia (2 daily; 3hr 30min).
GETTING AROUND
A one-way journey on the MRT costs between S$1.20
and S$2.20. Alternatively, a 24hr Singapore Tourist Pass
( W thesingaporetouristpass.com; available from Changi
Airport, Orchard, Chinatown, City Hall, Ra es Place, Harbour
Front and Bugis MRT stations) will allow you unlimited
travel for 24 hours on the bus and MRT for just S$10.
By MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) Singapore's clean, e cient
and good-value MRT system (Transitlink Hotline T 1800 767
4333, W smrtcorp.com) runs on four main lines threading
the island together (map p.686), with more lines in the
works. Trains run every five minutes or so, daily 6am-
midnight. Eating and drinking are both prohibited on the
MRT - punishable with a fine of S$500.
By bus For information about fares and routes and to plan

BY BOAT
Boats to and from the Indonesian Riau archipelago dock
at the HarbourFront Centre, near the MRT of the same
name. Boats to Pulau Batam sail to Sekupang (daily
7.30am-7pm; 30min; S$40 one-way), from where you
can take a taxi to Hangnadim Airport for internal Indo-
nesian flights or another boat to Tanjung Buton on the
Sumatran mainland. Ferries to Bintan in Indonesia depart
from Tanah Mera Ferry Terminal (take the MRT to Tanah
Mera, then bus #35 to the ferry terminal). It's also possible
to travel between Singapore and Malaysia by boat. Ferries
depart from Changi Point ferry terminal to Pengerang in
Johor (take the MRT to Tanah Mera, then bus #2 to Changi
Village); check in one hour before departure.
