INFORMATION
Information and tours There's a tourist information
point at Muelle Pier in Puerto Galera (daily 7.30am-5pm;
T 043 287 3051). In Sabang, GPLP Tours ( T 0927 326
0535, E adventures172001@yahoo.com) provide info on
the area and can arrange island-hopping (from P1000),
trekking, kayaking tours or overnight trips into the tribal
hinterlands (P1200). Islands Destination Travel & Tours in
Puerto Galera ( T 043 287 3145) can book local day-trips
and plane and ferry tickets.
nightlife becomes increasingly sleazy, with
girlie bars and “discos” taking centre stage.
Neighbouring Small La Laguna and
Big La Laguna are rather more laidback
and have better beaches for sunbathing.
Twenty minutes by jeepney on the other
side of Puerto Galera town is White
Beach , which has fewer boorish scuba
divers than Sabang, but an equal number
of hawkers. It gets busy with weekenders
from Manila, and also at peak times,
especially Easter, when rates shoot up.
Five minutes past White Beach by tricycle
is quieter Talipanan Beach . Between the
two, Aninuan has the plushest resorts in
the area.

GETTING AROUND
Travelling between the tourist areas is relatively easy.
From Sabang and White Beach, jeepneys leave regularly
throughout the day for Puerto Galera town (6am-6pm;
15min; P20). A tricycle should cost P30 per person, but
you'll be doing well to get this ride for less than P100.
A pump boat from Big/Small La Laguna to Sabang costs
P200 during the day, P400 at night.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE
By ferry There are numerous competitive ferry departures
for Puerto Galera town (Muelle Pier; 1hr), Sabang and
White Beach until 5pm. To return, departures begin at
6.30am and the last boat from Puerto Galera leaves at
3.30pm. The last boat from Sabang leaves at 1pm, and on
high-season weekends there are also departures from
White Beach. Fares are around P270 plus a P30 terminal
fee and a P50 environmental user fee.
By bus and ferry The most convenient way to reach
Puerto Galera from Manila is a combined bus-and-ferry
service (2hr to Batangas pier, then 2hr by boat; P700 one-
way). Si-Kat ( T 02 708 9628, W sikatferrybus.com) leaves
at 8.30am sharp from the CityState Tower Hotel at 1315A
Mabini St, Ermita, arriving in Sabang at 12.15pm and
Muelle Pier at 1pm. Coming back, the service leaves Puerto
Galera at 8.15am, stopping in Sabang at 9am and arriving
in Manila at 1.15pm.
