Francis Ford Coppola chose
PAGSANJAN
,
90km southeast of Manila, as the
shooting location for the harrowing final
scenes of
Apocalypse Now
, and the sheer
drama of the scenery is undeniable. Faded
Hollywood associations aside, the real
draw here is the chance to shoot down
the fourteen rapids of the Bombongan
River from
Pagsanjan Falls
. Proceed first
of all to the Pagsanjan Municipal Tourism

located by the Catholic Church in the
town proper, who will brief you and get
you to the boating stations. he local
bangkeros
are skilled at manoeuvring their
canoes between the boulders. he cost of
shooting the rapids is P1250 per person,
which includes a round-trip boat ride and
a bamboo raft to the main falls (cushion
and life vest included). here have been
incidences of boatmen demanding tips of
as much as P1000, but P100 per person
is adequate. To get to Pagsanjan from
South of Manila
and Mindoro
Leaving the sprawl of Manila behind
and heading south takes you along the
South Luzon Expressway (known to
Filipinos as the South Luzon
Distressway) and into the provinces
of Cavite, Laguna and Batangas.
