ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE
BY PLANE
Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is in
Parañaque, on the southern fringes of the city. Most
international flights arrive at Terminal 1; Terminal 2,
relatively nearby, serves only Philippine Airlines (inter-
national and domestic); the tiny Domestic Passenger
Airport Terminal (aka Terminal 4) is 3km away on the other
side of the airport and serves AirAsia Zest, Fil-Asian
Airways, SkyJet and Tigerair Philippines flights; further
around is Terminal 3, serving Cebu Pacific and PAL Express
(international and domestic). Terminal 3 is the best
equipped and has a small Department of Tourism (DOT)
reception desk, several currency exchanges, ATMs, left
luggage, and stalls selling local SIM cards. A shuttle bus
connects all the terminals, running frequently throughout
the day, but tra c congestion means transfers can take
over one hour in some cases - leave plenty of time.
Transport To get into town join the queue to take a
yellow airport taxi (P70 flagfall, then P4 per 300m) from
outside the arrivals hall, which will set you back about
P300-400, rather than the white fixed-price taxis, which
usually have no line, but cost nearly double. Taking a
non-o cial taxi from the airport guarantees you'll be
ripped off, and you should never get into a taxi that is
unmarked or has other people in it. Domestic departure
tax from Manila (P200) is now included in the ticket price;
international departure tax is P550.
Destinations
BY BUS
There's no single bus station for Manila, and timetables are
hard to come by and in a constant state of flux, which can
make departing Manila by bus a bit of a headache. Often,
if you tell your taxi driver your destination, he'll bring you
to the right station. An up-to-date resource is the “getting
around” section of W philippines-travel-guide.com.
Bus stations The majority of Manila's plethora of bus
stations are located in and around Epifanio de los Santos
Avenue (EDSA), in two rough groupings: Pasay (south)
and Cubao (north). The MRT runs northeast along EDSA
from Pasay to Quezon City, where it joins the LRT which
runs west and south through Malate to Pasay, closing
the loop. The closest LRT station to the tourist belt in
Malate is Quirino. There are regular daily departures to
most destinations.
