SHOPPING
KL is full of shopping malls, particularly in the Golden
Triangle; most are open daily from 10am to 10pm. A
wander around KL's many and varied markets is also a
great way to soak up some of the atmosphere of the city
and perhaps even pick up some bargains.
Pavilion KL Jln Bukit Bintang. Award-winning shopping
venue with an excellent selection of designer stores and
high-street outlets, pampering spas, restaurants and in
Food Republic , one of the city's best food courts (see p.430).
Suria KLCC Golden Mile. If you're on a mission to shop,
then this is the place to head to. An awesomely large
complex set across six floors, there are plentiful Western
brands from designers such as Louis Vuitton to more
affordable high-street brands such as Quiksilver and
Marks & Spencer, as well as an art gallery and a science
discovery centre.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE BOOKS
Kinokuniya Level 4, Suria KLCC. Great selection of fiction
and travel guidebooks.
Times Books Level 6, Pavilion KL. Besides a good fiction
and non-fiction selection, there's an extensive array of
English-language magazines.

Internet The tourist o ce MATIC offers computers with
free internet access; Yoshi Connection, Concourse Level of
Suria KLCC (daily 10am-10pm; RM8/hr).
Pharmacies Pharmacies can be found in every
shopping mall.
Post o ce The GPO is on Jln Tun Sambanthan (Mon-Fri
8.30am-8pm, Sat 8.30am-5pm).
Tourist police The tourist police station (daily 24hr),
where you must report stolen property and claim your
insurance form, is within the same complex as the tourist
o ce MATIC at 109 Jln Ampang ( T 03 2163 4422).
HANDICRAFTS AND BATIK
Central Market Jln Hang Kasturi. There are numerous
batik stalls on the first floor in particular, selling sarongs,
colourful shirts and scarves.
Peter Hoe 2nd Floor, Old Lee Rubber Building, Jln Tun
H.S. Lee. A stone's throw from Central Market, this is a more
upmarket outlet specializing in beautiful bags, batik shirts
and sarongs, as well as locally made and Indonesian crafts.
MARKETS
Chow Kit Market Jln Haji Hussein, off Jln TAR. Quite an
experience, with its warren of stalls selling everything
from animals' brains to quality batik textiles. Daily
9am-5pm.
Jalan Petaling Market Near Central Market. The
covered walkways here are crowded and lively and you
can pick up anything from an Angry Birds backpack to
knock-off designer gear and the usual “I Heart MY”
T-shirts. Bargaining is a must. Daily 9am-10pm.
SHOPPING MALLS
Bangsar Village 1 Jln Telawi, Bangsar. Chic and shiny,
with marble floors and a host of stores that stock inter-
national designer labels and draw a yuppie crowd.
BB Plaza Jln Bukit Bintang. Offering excellent deals on
cameras, electronic equipment, shoes and much else besides.
TREAT YOURSELF
Kuala Lumpur is teeming with masseurs
and Jalan Bukit Bintang is home to a whole
host of them, all waiting to soothe your
aching muscles. There's usually an
assortment of relaxing treatments on offer,
including traditional reflexology treatments,
body massages, fish spas (where little fish
nibble on the dead skin of your feet), body
scrubs and facials, all from the comfort of a
reclining chair. Prices start from RM40 for a
half-hour foot massage.
