station. Most tourists come to the city for
the day, but an overnight stay is a good
chance to try the city's restaurants in the
evening and visit early morning markets.

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE
By plane Mataram's Selaparang Airport closed in 2011.
All domestic and international flights now operate out
of Lombok International Airport (Bandara Internasional
Lombok) at Praya, 23km southeast of Mataram. There are
ATMs and currency exchanges here, and hotel-reservation
desks. The easiest transport from the airport is by taxi
(there's a small departure fee to pay). Coupons are
available at the counter outside the exit doors to the
terminal. A metered taxi to Senggigi or Kuta will cost
about Rp175,000, to Mataram around Rp100,000. Public
DAMRI buses depart every 90min (3am-8pm) for the
Mandalika terminal in Mataram and Senggigi.

departures at the Bertais/Mandalika/Sweta terminal.
Destinations Bima (Sumbawa; 1-2 daily; 12hr); Denpasar
(Bali; hourly; 6-8hr); Dompu (Sumbawa; 1-2 daily; 10hr);
Labuanbajo (Flores; 1-2 daily; 24hr); Sumbawa Besar
(Sumbawa; 7-8 daily; 6hr).
WHAT TO SEE AND DO
he vibrant markets offer a great chance
to see local life. he Kebon Roek market
in Ampenan and the market near the
Bertais/Mandalika/Sweta bus terminal at
Sweta are both worth wandering around,
but the friendliest is Cakranegara market
behind the Jalan Gede Ngurah/Jalan
Pejanggik crossroads.
he best one-stop craft centre is the
Sayang Sayang Art Market (daily
9am-6pm), on Jalan Jend Sudirman, with
handicraft stalls ranged around a car park.
It's a more lively offshoot of the Lombok
Handicraft Centre, also known as Sayang
Sayang, which is around the corner on
Jalan Hasanudin at Rungkang Jangkok.
