Volcano Club Main Road, near Banyualit. Lovina's
main nightlife venue, set in what appears to be a cave,
with music so loud it's basically unrecognizable, though
this doesn't appear to put off the predominantly local
crowd. Opening varies with the season (though it's
generally open at least on Sat 6pm-3am); look out for
local adverts.
Zigiz Bar Jl Bina Ria, Kalibukbuk. Two doors down from
Poco , the tourist-oriented Zigiz is a similar setup with a
more laidback vibe. Daily 4pm-late.
endangered Bali starling, Bali's one true
endemic creature. A few trails are open
to the public, but most visitors come to
dive and snorkel the spectacular Pulau
Menjangan reefs. All visitors must hire a
guide and buy a permit (Rp25,000),
either through the National Park
headquarters (daily 8am-5pm) in
CEKIK , 3km south of Gilimanuk, or at
the Pulau Menjangan jetty (see below).
Guides charge Rp250,000-350,000 to
Rp600,000-750,000 for a two- to
seven-hour hike. All Denpasar
(Ubung)-Gilimanuk bemos pass the
park headquarters, as do all Singaraja-
Gilimanuk bemos.
If your main interest is birdwatching,
opt for the Prapat Agung Peninsula trek
(1-2hr) or the Teluk Terima trail (2hr).
he Gunung Klatakan-Gunung
Bakingan rainforest trail (7hr) is more
strenuous but lacking in wildlife.
ACCOMMODATION
The most pleasant place to stay is the lovely little beach
haven of Pemuteran, 28km east of Cekik, served by
Gilimanuk-Singaraja bemos. Camping is forbidden in
most of the park, but you can ask to pitch your tent on
Labuan Lalang's beach or at the Cekik headquarters,
though there are few facilities at either.
Jubawa Homestay Pemuteran T 0362 94745. Friendly
guesthouse with bright and airy rooms, plus a decent
restaurant. Sta ff can organi ze snorkelling and diving trips
to Menjangan. Rp250,000
Pondok Wisata Lestari 1.5km north of the park
headquarters on the road to Gilimanuk T 0365 61504. The
nearest hotel and restaurant to the park, and the cheapest
acceptable option in the area, with very basic rooms.

DIRECTORY
Banks and exchange There are moneychangers
throughout the resort. Several ATMs accept international
cards, including on the main road in Kalibukbuk.
Bicycle rental Several places on Jl Mawar (from
Rp20,000/day).
Car and motorbike rental Available throughout the
resort from established firms and from people who'll
approach you on the street. Cars around Rp200,000/day,
motorbikes from Rp50,000/day. Established companies
include Yuli Transport ( T 036 41184), on Jl Mawar. To
charter a vehicle and driver, you'll be looking at around
Rp450,000/day.
Cookery classes Adjani ( T 0812 385 6802, W adjanibali
.com; Rp400,000/3hr) is well established and has an
o ce in Kaliasem.
Hospital The closest hospital is in Singaraja (see p.276).
Internet Offered by many places including Spice Dive on
Jl Bina Ria, Kalibukbuk (Rp16,000/hr).
Pharmacy Guardian Pharmacy, on the main road in
Kalibukbuk.
Police On the main road to the east of Kalibukbuk
( T 0362 41010).
Post o ce The post o ce is about 1km west of
Kalibukbuk. The Tip Top shop on Jl Lovina is a postal agent.
Spas and massages There are plenty of spas in addition
to beach massages: Agung's ( T 0362 42018, W agungs
.com) on the road to Damai Lovina Villas ; and Araminth
Spa ( T 0362 41901, W arunaspa.com) on Jl Mawar.

Yoga Lotus Sherab Yoga Centre (next to Dolphin Beach
Apartments, Jl Raya Lovina T 0339 128680, W lotus
sherabyoga) runs morning and evening sessions on
the beach.

Pulau Menjangan (Deer Island)
By far the most popular part of Bali Barat
is Pulau Menjangan (Deer Island), a tiny
uninhabited island 8km off the north
coast, whose shoreline is encircled by
fabulous coral reefs, with drop-offs of
up to 60m, first-class wall dives and
superb visibility.
Guides, permits and boat transport
should be arranged at the jetty in
Labuan Lalang , 13km east of Cekik, on
the Gilimanuk-Singaraja bemo route
(30min from Gilimanuk or 2hr from
Lovina). here's a small national park
