EATING AND DRINKING
Yogya's specialities are ayam goreng (fried chicken) and
nasi gudeg (rice and jackfruit), and many food stalls serve
nothing else. Every evening a food market sets up on Jl
Malioboro and by 8pm the entire street is thronged with
diners. Yogya's nightlife is really an early-evening affair;
very few places stay open beyond midnight, and most of
the action happens between 7 and 11pm, when the city's
cultural entertainment is in full swing.

is one of the cheapest places on Jl Sosro. The simple rooms
have attached mandis and a pleasant outdoor sitting area.

Whitewashed hotel with clean, comfortable rooms, all
en suite, and a brilliant pool with a waterfall out the back.

restaurant with a warm, candlelit ambience serving
delicious pizzas (Rp40,000) cooked in a wood-fired oven,
as well as pasta (from Rp25,000) and a good selection of
Indonesian food. Alfresco dining, with generous portions,
friendly service and free wi-fi. Daily 11am-11pm.
Bamboo House Jl Prawirotaman II MGIII/616 W bamboo
housecafe.com; map above. Small café with a pleasant,
relaxed atmosphere, breezy upstairs deck, free wi-fi and a
range of local and international food ( gado gado Rp28,000).
Fresh juices start at Rp14,000. Daily 9am-11pm.
Easy Goin' Jl Prawirotaman 12 T 0274 384092, W easy

restaurant with a broad menu of tasty Western, Indone-
sian and Mexican dishes ranging from beef burritos
(Rp55,000) to nasi tumpeng (Rp50,000). Happy hour lasts
from 2-7pm, and it's one of the cleanest and brightest
spots along the street, with a pool table and wi-fi. Daily
10.30am-after midnight.
