Your Assembled Electroculture System
Troubleshooting Tip
One good reason for having a multimeter is because of a feature called a “conductivity test.” In
this mode, the device will emit a beep when the probes are touching two points that are electrically
connected to each other. This is a great tool to have for troubleshooting problems that may occur when
the electrodes look connected, but electrically aren't. This can be due to a number of reasons ranging
from mechanical stress (e.g. loose wires from pulling), or corrosion, making for a weak connection.
To give it a try now, while your multimeter is on the continuity test mode, touch one probe to the
electrode and the other end to the far end of the wire that's connected to it. If you hear a “beeping”
sound, then the electrode and the wire are electrically connected.
If not, then you may need re-solder your wire joint, or possibly re-make the entire electrode assembly.
At this point, your basic electro-horticulture system is complete.
Waterproofing Tip
To extend the life of your electrical connections, you can coat your electrical connections in silicone
gel or rubber cement. This will help with keeping moisture out when they get wet from watering or
high-humidity.
