In-Depth Information
Select the “Upgrade Oracle Database” option to begin the upgrade process and click on the “Next” button to
advance to step 2 shown in Figure 12-8 .
Figure 12-8. The database selection screen
In this screen you have the option to select the database you want to upgrade. In our case the only eligible
database was named ORA11 and is created in an Oracle 11.2.0.3.x home. It is up, and it is a single instance database.
The database instance name ORA11 has chosen for the sake of demonstrating the upgrade process only. In most
production deployments it makes very little sense to create a database tied to a version. Version numbers inevitably
increase causing the instance name to be out of sync with the database name. The workaround to the situation-using
services-may add confusion to administrators looking after such an environment.
The target 12c RDBMS home is shown on the top of the screen and determined by the location of the DBUA
executable on the file system. If you do not find the database you want to migrate you should check the source oracle
home drop-down menu and chose the appropriate one. As per the recommendation above the database is started.
Select the radio button next to it and click on “Next” to advance to step 3, shown in Figure 12-9 :
