PrereqChecks complete
If the prerequisite checker returns no failures no further action has to be taken. If the checker does return
failures, review which check has failed and correct the problem. If you are planning a graphical installation for the
Management Host you should add the necessary packages and their dependencies in order to install via the Virtual
Networking Protocol (VNC). You are of course free to use whichever other means to display Oracle Universal Installer,
the author has good experience with VNC. Please refer back to Chapters 5 and 6 in this topic for more information
about VNC and preparations for a graphical installation of the software as well as package management via yum .
The reference for packages required for every Linux distribution and release can be found in Chapter 3, “Enterprise
Manager Cloud Control Basic Installation Guide”. Unlike the database, which requires many modifications of the
kernel parameters, only one parameter needs to be changed for the OMS installation: shmmax . Edit /etc/sysctl.conf
with your favorite text editor and ensure that the shmmax is set to 4294967295. This unusual value is 1 bit less than 4 GB.
The only change necessary to the per user limits is to increase the maximum number of open files from 1024 to
4096 for the OMS owner in /etc/security/limits.conf :
oracle soft nofile 4096
oracle hard nofile 4096
These changes only take effect the next time you log in. If you had a VNC Server session active, you need to kill it
and create a new one.
You should have at least 10GB of disk space available for the installation of the OMS on the local host, preferably
more. This is purely for the installation of the software required to run the OMS, not the software library. If you can,
you should allocate more space for the installation, ideally on a logical volume and an online-resizable file system to
be able to deal with space shortages.
Installing Enterprise Manager
Before starting the installation you should ensure that communication between the repository database and the
management host is possible. Review any potential firewall rules and make any necessary changes to the configuration
in a change window before the OEM installation. If you decided to use VNC for the installation, start a vncserver process
as oracle on the Management Host. Connect to your virtual display from your desktop machine to begin the installation.
