The options are exactly the same as shown earlier in this chapter for Grid Infrastructure. Please refer to section
“Download Software Updates” for a more detailed explanation.
Selecting Installation Options
When installing the Oracle database binaries you are offered three options shown in Figure
6-18
. The first is to install
the binaries and then install a database. The second option, which I recommend, is to install the database software
only. The final option is to upgrade an existing database as part of the installation process. It is strongly recommended
not to perform that step at this stage! Take your time to plan the installation and upgrade in your own time. Please
refer to Chapter 12 which is all about upgrading to Oracle 12c.
