The mapping of operating system groups to Oracle's internal groups has been discussed in great detail in Chapter 5.
Here is a quick refresher of the discussion:
Members of the Oracle ASM Administrator Group (OSASM) can connect to the ASM instance
using the SYSASM privilege
Members of the Oracle ASM DBA Group (OSDBA) can connect to the ASM instance using the
SYSDBA privilege. The RDBMS owner account (oracle in most cases) must be a member of
this group. Otherwise the ASM storage will not be visible to the database
Members of the optional ASM Operator Group (OSOPER for ASM) can connect using the
SYSOPER privilege
Although it is possible to assign the same operating system group to all of the Oracle groups, it is suggested to use
the groups as shown in the figure for finer privilege granularity.
