In-Depth Information
Select Installation Option
Figure 6-2 shows one of the central screens in the whole installation. On this screen you define the further course of
the installation, and the next steps depend on the choice you make here. Not all are applicable to the installation of an
Oracle Restart environment.
Your choices in Figure 6-2 include the following:
Install and configure Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a cluster : Select this option to install Grid
Infrastructure for a Real Application Cluster. Unfortunately, due to space constraints this
cannot be discussed in this chapter.
Install and configure Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a standalone server : This is the option
you choose for installing Oracle Restart. It will guide you through a set of screens to define
the properties of the new installation. In the course of the chapter I am assuming that you
chose this option.
Upgrade Oracle Grid Infrastructure or Oracle Automatic Storage Management : This is
the entry point for upgrading an existing Oracle Restart and Real Application Cluster
environment. It provides a very convenient way to migrate from a previous release to 12.1.
More information about upgrade considerations, the upgrade path and more can be found
in Chapter 12.
Install Oracle Grid Infrastructure Software only : This option is appropriate for experienced
Oracle administrators without root access to immediately execute the root-scripts during
the installation. Unlike the second option, which will run all the configuration assistants
after the binaries have been deployed, this installation type requires you to perform manual
steps. These include running configuration steps for Oracle Restart, as well as the addition
of any resource normally created for you by an automated configuration assistant. On the
upside you do not need to wait for any configuration assistant to finish. As soon as the
software has been installed it is possible to close the OUI session.
Continue the installation by selecting option 2 “Install and Configure Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a Standalone
Server” and click on the “Next” button.
Select Product Language
You can see in Figure 6-3 that Oracle supports a wide range of languages out of the box. The American English
language will always be pre-selected, and should not be removed from the selection.
