You'll need four, five, or even
six layers built on top of
each other, depending on
thickness and how many
embers you need to cook on.
Once the stack is complete,
you can light the tinder at
the bottom. The space
under the sticks will draw
air in and fan the fire.

This kind of open kindling
construction will burn fast.
The logs on either side are
supposed to catch fire, but if
they're thick enough, they'll
burn more slowly.
Once the stack has burned
down, you can use the
embers to cook over. If you
need warmth or want to
share the fire, you can add
thicker logs later.
