GLOSSARY
A horizon
Upper layer of soil, most usually darker and higher in organic matter.
Allelopathy
Release
of
specific
organic
compounds
by
a
plant
to
discourage
germination or establishment of other plant species nearby.
Aquic Soil has high water contents that limit oxygen content of soil.
Arable land Land that can be used to grow crops.
Aridic Dry for more than half the year.
B horizon Subsurface layer(s), usually higher in clay and redder in color, of soil.

the spike. Generally, this type of barley is used for brewing due to its better
diastatic quality.
