CLIMATE AT THE THREE FARMS
Weather characteristics of the areas of the three farms are given in the pictures
depicting the sky during the December through February time period 2005 - 2006.
The Philippine sky (Fig. 8.1) and the Ecuador sky (Fig. 8.2) are similar to the Ohio
farm sky (Fig. 8.3), and yet the Philippines and Ecuador are green and the Ohio coun-
tryside is brown, the trees all being without leaves. Heavy thick clouds make the day
dark in both the Philippines and Ohio. However, in the Philippines the clouds will
deposit rain and dissipate while those in Ohio will not provide any precipitation on
this particular day and will continue to cover the area for perhaps several days.
When the conditions are right, these types of clouds in Ohio will provide precipitation
in the form of snow or drizzle at this time of the year.
The Ecuador farm is on the equator while the Philippine and U.S. farms are in the
Northern Hemisphere. Ecuador and the Philippines have no summer/winter tempera-
ture difference, but the United States farm does. For this reason the surroundings in
the United States are very different, no plants growing, from those at the other locations
where plants grow all year round.
